[news] Arirang TV presents global Kpop show

English broadcaster Arirang TV has a new music show ``The M-Wave'' that will hopefully satisfy those searching for a bit more K-Pop.

The show will air every Sunday at 6 p.m., and be broadcast in more than 180 countries, introducing new groups and tracks from the local music scene, while featuring some of the most popular bands.

Hosted by girl group f(x)'s Krystal and Cheondoong from MBLAQ, the show had its first shoot last week, and it was evident the two newcomers were apprehensive hosting such a big program.

The two stood on a high platform clutching cue sheets in their hands and nervously memorizing their lines.

``This is the M-Wave!'' they shouted to the camera with big smiles.

After a couple of attempts, the ``guy with rhythm'' and the ``girl with style'' finally finished their first take.

``I'm so glad to be hosting a show with Cheondoong, and we will both do our best to bring the best. It's been a while since I spoke in English for so long and I thought it would be awkward. But after a few takes, I think I got used to it,'' Krystal, 16, said during an interview after filming.

While Krystal seemed to get more comfortable as time went by, it was Cheondoong who went through a difficult time with his lines. The 19-year-old released his tension with subtle dance moves and jokes, but took some time getting down his lines.

``I was so nervous! I'm not good at public speaking in general, and so I'm grateful to everyone who went through my awkwardness and mistakes. I'll make sure I get better,'' he said, laughing.

The two singers both have experience abroad: Krystal was born and raised in the United States, while Cheondoong was born in Korea, but grew up in the Philippines.

Another similarity of the two is that they both have siblings working in the entertainment industry: Krystal is the sister of Girls' Generation member Jessica, while Cheondoong's sister is Sandara Park, member of girl group 2NE1.

``My sister sent me a text message yesterday night. I think she couldn't believe that her younger brother was hosting a music show. Her message read ``Wow, but you're such a baby,''' he said.

Instead of simply broadcasting music videos and having top singers perform on stage, ``The M-Wave'' is looking for some interaction from its Asian viewers. Arirang TV has joined various music channels around Asia, including Channel [v], to offer a non-stop music show, while viewers around the world can log on to the program's Web site and chat with their favorite K-pop singers through Skype during the ``SKY TALK'' sequence.

Another interesting part of the show is ``Hello K-POP,'' where a VJ or the host will present Korean songs that made it to music charts in different countries.

For more information on the show, visit www.arirang.co.kr/TV2/Mwave/ or check out the program's Twitter at www.twitter.com/themwave2010.

[news] SM boycotts MAMA

CR: delacroix

Pls credit the sources and all sites when reposting. Do not hotlink the graphics.

Artistes of SM Entertainment will not be taking part in the 2009 MAMA.

SME announced on November 3rd that their artistes including Super Junior, SNSD, SHINee and f(x) will not be attending MAMA. The reason given was that MAMA will be using a process similar to how MNET's music program M! Countdown selects its winners, and SME does not trust the method nor believe that it is fair.

This latest statement comes as SME does not trust in M! Countdown because of what happened with SNSD's massive hit Gee. While the song topped charts of other television networks for 9 weeks in a row, it failed to reach number one in M! Countdown even once. It only made the top 10, one whole month after the song's release date.

SME thus feel that MNET's method of deciding on their winners cannot be trusted.

Also, there is a MAMA-related popularity poll happening on Mnet's website at the moment. The catch is that you must be registered as a paid member of the website in order to cast a vote. SME feels that fans of SME's artistes should not be spending too much money just to cast votes for their favourite artistes and has hence asked MNET to withdraw SME's artistes from the categories for which they are nominated in MAMA.

~~ and to add to this... SHINee is not nominated to any entries!

Jonghyun of SHINee had recently posted a photo of him, f(x)'s Amber, and Super Junior's Donghae on his new me2DAY account.

Along with the photo, he had posted a comment, saying "Where am I?" stating that the 3 look very alike.

Netizens have been saying that they have the same eyes, and overall face structure. They have also been saying that the 3 resembled dinosaurs, which gave them the nickname of "The SM Dinosaur Threesome".

I also think that the 3 look very similar in the photo, especially Amber and Jonghyun. Except Jonghyun looks slightly manlier.

[news] MKMF is now MAMA

The year 2009 was like a gust of wind that has brought along tons of new girls groups, but whose hand will MAMA (no pun intended but that's the acronym) hold now?

Major Korean music channel Mnet has announced that their Mnet Korean Music Festival (MKMF) will now be renamed as Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)!

Mnet announced on October 23 that the live broadcast will change its concept and the way they will handle how people may vote for which artist wins the award.

Mnet also announced that Park Ji Yoon, SG Wannabe's Kim Yong Jun and Lee Seok Hoon will become the new MC's of the event.

The live broadcast of the 2009 MAMA will take place on November 21 at Seoul's Jamsil Stadium. People that live outside of Korea, don't give your hopes up yet, because there's a reason why MAMA is titled MAMA! Via Channel V International, the event will be broadcasted in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and Thailand.

The special main event will be the "Global Artist Award." In addition, another major change is that the Trot genre will be added on along with the other Pop music awards.

There will be a total of 7 categories of artists, 7 categories of genres, and 2 categories of music video nominations during the event. In addition, there will be a total of 30 awards for each nominated song.

People may start voting on October 23, 2009 through the
Mnet homepage.
