The Wonder Girls are back in America, and will be interviewed on GOOM Radio first!

GOOM Radio (the first Internet radio station to play the Wonder Girls' breakout single, "Nobody") and Soompi.com are collaborating together to give fans the chance to speak to The Wonder Girls! The girls will be coming to the GOOM studio this Thursday (4/13) for an interview, and will answer any questions from their fans. This will be a live show, everyone will be able to to tune in to goomradio.com on Thursday, May 13th between 7-9 PM EST!

Fans will be able to phone in at (201) 332-5980 or Skype by calling "ZangRadio".

Also, one Soompier in New York will have the opportunity to visit the GOOM studio to meet the Wonder GIrls in Person! It has been a girl group craze for a while but now the boy groups are stretching out and are becoming very active. Amongst the many idol groups, there is one group that debuted last October that is becoming very popular. As soon as they debuted last year, they received the rookie award: Beast. Because of the team name, many people anticipated their rough image but they also received nicknames like "pet dol" and "nam-chin dol" (T/N Namchin= boyfriend). If you get to know them, BEAST isn't a beast, but they received their name from the phrase So Beast meaning that they are cool. Following 'Bad Girl', 'Mystery', in their 2nd mini album, Yoon Doojoon, Jang Hyunseung, Lee Kikwang, Yong Junhyung, Yang Yoseob, and Son Dongwoon returned as charismatic men with 'Shock'. Let's now meet BEAST.

Dongwoon> I'm Dongwoon and I'm in charge of the vocals and being the maknae. (T/N Maknae means youngest of the group)

Bugs> What kind of song is the 2nd mini album's title song, shock?
Dongwoon> Similar to Bad Girl, this time Shin Sa Dong, Ho Rang, and Lee Sang Hoon composers showed us their great teamwork. It's a bit different from the Hook style that already existed with a melodious song and this time we experimented with Rock and Electronic style and made a genre caled Rock Electronic. Recently, a lot of people use autotune, but we did not use any autotune in the whole album which makes us different from others.

Bugs> I heard that there was a lot of hardships because of Shock's choreography. How long did it take to perfect the dance. And in the midst of this were there any episodes?
Junhyung> Honestly when we were filming the MV we didn't really get to practice beforehand. Because Doojoon had a lot of entertainment show schedules, he couldn't practice for a week and we filmed the music video. After that, before we made our comeback, we practiced really hard for about 2-3 weeks, but because the choreography is so fierce, even though we have all danced before, our muscles were so sore after the first time we learned it, we could barely walk. In my case, while we were practicing, my thigh muscles suddenly cramped up, so I couldn't walk properly for 3 days.



Bugs> You guys received the rookie award that you can only receive once in your life time at at the Seoul Gayo Daesang. You guys debuted at the second half of the year, and you must have anticipated the rookie award. How did you guys feel when you heard your name BEAST for the award?
Doojoon> It was very touching. Honestly, we didn't think we would get it. There were so many talented and great rookies that debuted, we definitely thought that we would not be able to receive it, but we're really thankful that we got the rookie award. We are working really hard as if we received something that we weren't supposed to get. (What did you guys do after you got the award that night) Because it was during our promotions, we went to the practice room.

Bugs> The show High Kick Through the Roof that Kikwang appeared in has ended. Do either Kikwang or the rest of the members have any thoughts of acting in the future?
Doojoon> We don't have any set plans for acting, but as soon as High Kick Through the Roof ended, Kikwang was added to the MBC Sunday Sunday Night 'Hot Brothers', so he will be able to show himself to everybody. We will show everybody a BEAST that appears in many different fields.

Bugs> Your apartment got bigger after you moved, but I heard that you guys still share one room. If 6 boys use the same room, I think there will be a lot of difficulties. If there is something that you really want somebody to change, please tell us.
Junhyung> We do use one room for all 6 members in our apartment, but we only sleep and come out so there isn't that much discomfort. But of course, there are some members at night that don't sleep and do other things. (Who are they) Hyunseung and Kikwang don't sleep a lot. I don't know what they do on the computer, but at night they don't sleep but do other things. Because of this, I think it would be better if we could use different rooms. (If this album does well, you might be able to) Yes. We do hope for that kind of thing. However, we try not to lose our original intentions, so all 6 of us will have to sleep together for a while.

Bugs> Your team name is BEAST, but you have friendly nicknames like pet-dols, boyfriend-dols. How do you feel when you hear these?
Junhyung> We originally didn't call ourselves BEAST to seem like beasts. In America, So Beast is a slang term that means something like that's really cool. In our terms, it means That's awesome! (T/N Literally, that kills). After we heard what it meant, we were thinking about naming our team this, but So beast doesn't really stick to your mouth. That's why we decided to name our team BEAST and our greeting to be So beast, but because of this a lot of people at first think that we're supposed to be beasts and rough kids. But after we came out, they realized we have cute kids like Yoseob. (Yoseob is the center of the nickname pet-dol) We got the name pet-dol because of Yoseob.
Yoseob> I got a nickname like Shih Tzu, so we got the nickname pet-dol, and since the fans were friendly when they approached us, it felt really good. And because it seemed like I was the key person, it felt good.
BEAST> (This concept is very strong, is there any nickname that you want) Things like wild animal dol, domestic animal dol, like an upgrade to another level.
Doojoon> Domestic animals that you can raise, but you can't raise at home? I think that would fit well.



Bugs> Doojoon, it seems like you like taking pictures. You seem to upload a lot of pictures on your minihompy (T/N Cyworld)
Doojoon> Because I travel to a lot of amazing places, I want to take pictures so starting from Cambodia, I took a lot of pictures and found it to be fun. I wanted to show it to a lot of people, so I uploaded them through my minihompy.

Bugs> You upload a lot of selcas (T/N self cameras- take pictures of yourself) on your minihompy, are there times when the members try to refrain you from revealing them? Or if there is any episode related to selcas?
Doojoon> I don't take a lot of selcas.
Junhyung> He takes selcas without birds or mice knowing. (T/N That's a Korean idiom meaning that he takes them when nobody knows)
Dongwoon> When I go on my minihompy, they're already uploaded. But the thing that's sad is that Doojoon hyung is really handsome, but the selcas don't do him justice.
Doojoon> Why, it came out well.
Dongwoon> There are some that don't do you justice.
Junhyung> So you're saying that the pictures came out ugly?
Dongwoon> He's very handsome in person, but the pictures don't come out as well.

Bugs> You guys appear on variety shows, is being on stage harder or appearing on variety shows?
Doojoon> Both. They're both hard. On stage, you practice hard for years to be on stage, but it's still hard and in the case of variety shows, because it's our first time doing it, it is very new and you do it with a lot of sunbaenims (T/N- Sunbaenim are the celebrities that debuted earlier than them). It's a very hard place to be, but because the Sunbaenims take care of you so well, it's hard but fun at the same time.

Bugs> The age of the members are all around the same. Even if the members are dongsengs (T/N younger members of the group), it is still hard for the leader, but since the age is nearly the same, I think there would be even harder aspects. Doojoon, what do you think. Who makes the leader struggle the most?
Doojoon> They all equally make me struggle, so I can't really choose one person.
Dongwoon> We don't really wake up easily.
Doojoon> Waking them up in the morning is the hardest. I always wake up earlier and wake them up, but only Yoseob wakes up at once.
Dongwoon> There's me too.
Doojoon> I wake him up several times, he just doesn't remember. It's so hard to wake them up. It's also hard to wake up first. First you have to depend on the alarm sound and you have to wake up on your own will. You have to fight your strong desire to sleep to wake up in the morning, so it's very hard. However, after you wake people up and stuff, it's better. and you also have that sense of achievement if you wake up first.
Yoseob> (If there is something you would like to say to your leader) We ask you to keep doing this for us
Junhyung> We will use you well as an alarm clock.

Bugs> Dongwoon is the maknae, and because you have a lot of hyungs (T/N older boys) are there a lot of hardships?
Dongwoon> If I can't say anything, I get very frustrated so I have to say everything so I don't really have any problems with them.
Yoseob> He's just like a friend. He looks like one too.
Junhyung> There is no sense of incompatibility.



Bugs> On a radio program that Kikwang could not be on, they said that 'the other members care the most about the replies about Kikwang. They also have a lot of greed for the ending'. Do you agree?
Kikwang> I honestly didn't hear that broadcast.
Doojoon> We definitely do have a greed for the ending.
Kikwang> But they don't really care about the comments on the internet. When we see bad comments, we're just like, oh there are people who think that.
Doojoon> (Don't you get stressed looking at mean comments) At first when I was a trainee or right before our debut, we got a lot of stress from it. Because we came from all over the place, a lot of people looked down upon us for no reason. At first we received a lot of pain from it, but after looking at those comments, we decided to work even harder, and we think that a lot of people's opinions changed. Because there are a lot of good comments, we gain a lot of confidence, and use this to work even harder.

Bugs> For Shock, I heard that Hyunseung found a draft for the make up and had some personal input into it. If there is a member that has a particular interest in fashion or make up?
Doojoon> Junhyung and Hyunseung have the most interest.

Bugs> If this is true, when your stylists bring accessories or clothes, do they choose first?
Junhyung> If the stylists prepare it for us, we don't choose. This is because they bring things that match us specifically, so we don't choose, but when they make a draft for our album, we get to give them our own ideas. But honestly, the things we wear on stage is different from street clothes. We don't really get involved in our stage outfits, but we take particular care in our street clothes, but we're still lacking. We have to care more.



Bugs> On Hyuna's 'Change' stage, Junhyung was featured in the song allowing him to promote with her, what was the most different in the two stages?
Junhyung> To tell you the truth, while I was featuring for Hyuna, I felt a little sad. 'Change' was composed by Shin Sa Dong Ho Rang hyung, and I was going to be involved in this, but because it was in the middle of our promotions, I couldn't really get involved. At the end, I just received the song and performed it on stage, I just felt really sorry. Also, if you go to the broadcasting company by yourself, you feel really down. Because Hyuna is a girl, there are some broadcasting companies that let you use the same waiting room, but because I was a boy, they put me in a different room. Because other people are with their team members, I felt really crestfallen. Honestly, while I was performing, I wanted to bring my BEAST members everyday. I thought about this a lot. So when we were preparing Shock, I really wanted to do it. But now that we're doing, It's not that great (laugh). I'm just kidding, it feels good to do it with them.

Bugs> How did the other members feel after watching the stage for 'Change'?
Dongwoon> It was amazing. He did well, and I felt proud.
Doojoon> Everytime I watched him, I felt happy, and I was waiting for the time where we could perform again, and now that we are I'm very happy.
Junhyung> Honestly, a lot of requests to feature for other girl singers were supposed to come, but it didn't. I'm sad (Laugh)

Bugs> Kikwang also had a time when he promoted solo as AJ. What is the main difference between performing solo and performing with BEAST?
Kikwang> First, it's very strengthening when I stand on stage. When I stood by myself, I felt very burdened because I had to do everything by myself, that I had to fill the whole stage by myself. But with a team, you have your own part and you are less burdened.

Bugs> Everybody has different experiences prior to debuting as BEAST. There are members who trained for a long time and other members that got eliminated in the Survival shows. Because these kinds of members joined, I think that the determination level would have been very different. Amongst the members, who do you think was the most spiteful?
Doojoon> I think that Hyunseung really worked the hardest.
Junhyung> Everybody will pick Hyunseung I think.
Doojoon> He had a very public wound and had a lot of hard times. He joined a dance team by himself and worked hard and had the most spite. Seeing him work so hard, we all learned from him.

Bugs> Seeing a team that you would have been a part of or was a part of, how do you feel when you meet them?
Doojoon> It's fun. It's very fun thinking about the past and because I'm with BEAST, it's very reassuring and also get the idea that it worked out for the best. I'm having a lot of fun right now and we're very thankful that we're receiving a lot of love as BEAST.




Bugs> We heard you were going to be involved in the choreography and lyrics. Are you preparing or learning how to compose? Which member do you think will compose a song first?
Doojoon> Well I wouldn't say we practice composing, but we are studying it. I think that Yong Junhyung is going to compose one first.
Junhyung> I am still studying. It's not because I don't see the composer after we finish our work, in our case everytime we can, we have private talks and play around talking about music related stuff too. Because of this, we can look over his shoulder and learn, so we're working hard to try to show you fast.

Bugs> Yoseob received the nickname pet-dol, we're curious to what the reactions of people around you were.
Yoseob> There were very opposite reactions. There were some friends that asked me how I was a pet-dol and others that said it matched well and that I needed to work hard. First, the BEAST members really liked it. They weren't happy because they got the name because of me, but because the public had interest in us and looked well upon us, so we were all happy.

Bugs> When the song comes out, it's natural to look at your parts. Because Junhyung is the only rapper and the rest are vocalists, do you guys think that Junhyung's parts are more secure than the other members?
Junhyung> Doojoon raps very well too, but he let me do it. When we first started preparing, I wanted to rap and I studied it a lot byy myself, so I got to do the rap, at first a guide comes out. When a guide comes out, I always write my own lyrics for my own part, so they leave my parts blank. Because I am the only rapper, my part is a bit more secure.
Doojoon> Junhyung's part is either Mo or Do (T/N This is a Korean idiom meaning that it's either super good, or super bad)
Junhyung> It's either a lot, or a little (regarding his parts), but I'm still satisfied. Like in ballads, when there isn't a lot of parts for me, the vocal members do very well. When there needs to be a rap, I need to work hard in order to make it the best.
Doojoon> (Who distributes the parts for the vocalists) The composers arrange it for us. It's important to listen to the experts. They are way better at music than us and can objectively know each member's talent, so we don't have any complaints and just record.

Bugs> You guys mainly show us fast songs, but do you have any plans on showing us songs with an Easy atmosphere?
Junhyung> We don't have any set plans, but we also want to have the chance to perform a slow, groovy song. However, we spend a lot of time preparing a strong performance, so we are still trying to show our manly side, and afterwards we will be able to show more hot, sticky performance.

Bugs> Dongwoon is the maknae, but doesn't have the appearance as the maknae. What was your reaction when people first started calling you 'Song Elder'?
Dongwoon> But honestly, I acknowledge it now. I decided to accept it. But lately I cut my hair and dyed it a little so there are some people starting to say that I look like the maknae so I feel good. It's an obvious thing, but I still feel good.
Yoseob> (What was your first impression of him) The first impression was very serious. I felt like I had to bow 90 degrees and greet him?
Junhyung> (You first met without knowing his age) After knowing his age and seeing him was more shocking. If I didn't know his age, I would have definitely greeted him, but he was supposd to be 2 years younger, but he looked older? But the way he acts is the maknae. (Does he use aegyo (T/N- act cute)) It's hard to accept it, but he does
Yoseob> He does do aegyo, and sometimes when we have a shooting, he acts like a little kid.
Doojoon> Even though he listens well and is very mature, there are times when he acts like a little kid and it's really cute.
Junhyung> Oh. So cute.



Bugs> We're curious as to what your personal interest in music is.
Junhyung> The members in general like Black music, and in my case I listened to mostly rappers' music, so I think I mostly listen to hip hop. The first time I listened to music, I liked it and until now I still listen, at times I like acoustic music but mostly I listen to hip hop.
Doojoon> I like authentic R&B, and there is a genre that is kind of unfamiliar in our country: Neo soul. It's kind of like a new soul, but has a hip hop beat and has a lot of emotions in the song with a sticky kind of style but I was really into it in middle and high school and I still listen to it now.
Yoseob> I too like R&B songs, but I first got into music by listening to rock, so I really like rock. (What rock music did you like) I liked heavy metal. Like Nirvana, Metallica. I really liked fierce songs, but it doesn't really match with me.
Junhyung> This guy used to be a vocalist for a band and he starts yelling and singing rock in front of us. It doesn't match him.
Dongwoon> I too listen mostly to Black music and I usually listen to songs with strong beats so at night I listen to a lot of New Age and Classical music. My ears need to rest too.
Doojoon> Dongwoon is very good at piano.
Kikwang> I listen to Groovy R&B.

Bugs> It really must have been a debut you have dreamed about and it's been a little less than 6 months since your debut. It was a short period of time, but if you look back, how do you feel. You received the rookie award and you're starting to get some hoobaes (T/N people that debuted after them), so how do you feel whenever you go to the waiting room?
Junhyung> Whenever we go to our waiting room or a broadcasting company, the sunbaenims really take care of us. Whenever we greet them, they always greet back and on top of that they give us a hug and take care of us and whenever they do that we feel good and feel like we have to do even better. Also, it's a little hard to call them hoobaes, but there are a lot of people who debuted after us and honestly there are a lot of amazing people. Everytime this happens, we feel like we need to work harder.
Yoseob> We get a bit nervous and a bit wary.

Bugs> These days the idols have a lot of talent, but there are still people with prejudices and draw a line between you and musicians. What do you think about this?
Junhyung> We all agree that there isn't a separation between idols and musicians. We aren't only trying to appeal in the outward appearance, but we really look at each and every detail, so we practice every night and work really hard. For this reason, we don't think that there is a boundary. If there are people who still have these prejudices, we will work even harder to break that prejudice.



Bugs> Please tell us your future plans in order to make this year BEAST's year.
Doojoon> We will keep performing with Shock, but there aren't any set plans for the future. We have some thoughts, but we don't have anything that is set for sure, but we will work hard to become a group that approaches the public and let more people listen to BEAST's music.

On this day, Hyunseung had acute indigestion and couldn't fully engage in the interview. It was hard for him to move his body properly, but to see him try his hardest to participate in the interview was very memorable. Many people were worried if he would be able to perform on stage, but after the interview, he went on stage as if nothing happened and showed no change in his performance leading me to understand why the other members chose Hyunseung as the guy that worked the hardest. Not only Hyunseung, but also the rest of the members looked very tired because of their schedules, but they finished their amazing performance like any other day, and I again got to understand why they have received so much love. In the future, I am anticipating even more of BEAST's amazing performances.

● You debuted on May and it's already your 2nd year. Being the oldest from the group, What do you think of SHINee recently?
Onew: I think we are accustomed in many different ways. When we are going to do something before, we're always shaking because we feel nervous. Of course it doesn't mean that we are not nervous now, But we feel more comfortable when were going up on stage and have eye-contact with our fans, Since then we are having so much fun.

● Do you often have eye-contact with your fans?
Onew: Yes of course

● So during the time, do you stare at the fans eyes steadily?
Onew: I stare and show my smile.

Onew: Yes. They feel happy so If we see their happy faces, we feel more happy.

● Do you really love yourself that much?
Onew: No! No! I'm not narcissistic ^▽^ It's not like that, I'm convincing of what the people are reacting to me like the things I said, the things that I had done. I don't have time to look myself at the actual spot so I check and get ready for the next recording.

Yoon Doo Joon (1989.07.04) - Leader. Also known as the comedian of the group and Gong Yoo look-a-like.

Q: Kong Yoo look-a-like, pretty interesting nickname there.
"People say I look like him when they get a glimpse of me. But you really have to just get a glimpse of me, because if you stare at me for too long then I'll just look like me."

Q: You seem like a funny guy.
"Team members say I'm funny but really, my jokes are jokes meant for the members. It is not like it involves things I can't say in public but I just can't say them outside of our dorm."
(Members called him out and said "He says a lot of stuff that he wouldn't be able to say on TV" - in a very criticizing manner.)

Q: How is your real personality like (as opposed to your public image)?
"People say I'm a stereotypical blood type-A (note: people with the blood type A are said to be shy, quiet, careful and introvert) person. Not sure about that, but I'm really good at memorizing impressions of people. For example, I remember exactly that BEAST members met for the first time on October 1st 2007 and I even remember what they were wearing or what they said."

Q: You showed some impressive piano skills on the Showcase.
"I taught myself so I can't say I'm very good. When I used to go to singing classes there was a piano there, and I learned it by learning bits and pieces from many different people. I was able to play the song I played on Showcase only because I practiced that one song for a really long time."
(But his team members say that he is actually pretty good.)



Jang Hyun Seung (1989.09.03) - Known for his lovely eyes, odd nickname "Lancho" and failure at becoming a member of Big Bang.

Q: How did you get your nickname?
"Has no meaning to it, to be honest. I called myself "Lan Seung" for jokes and someone started calling me "Lancho" and that stuck. I thought to myself, who the hell would call me that? But now the fans do, and I find that quite surprising."

Q: You look like a Japanese idol.
"People say that I look like Ryohei of W-inds. Probably the hair style, but not sure if we really do look alike."

Q: Fans say that you have the "eyes that melt my heart". Did you know?
"No, first time I've heard of that. Thanks for thinking as such."
(Doo Joon says "Must be because his eyes are big, clean and pure-looking like that of a deer.")

Q: You look like a very blunt person. What is your real personality like?
"When I'm quiet, I'm quiet. When I'm fooling around, I can cause a havoc. I'm not the type who leads anything though."
(Team members commented that Hyun Seung is the most interpersonal member of BEAST.)

19) - Unusual haircut, skilled at talking and at the same time charismatic.

Q: Interesting haircut you got there.
"It was my idea. I first said that I wanted to have the sides of my hair cut short. After that, it felt empty there so I shaved in some random patterns. I even shaved in a mic but members say it looks more like a pig's nose or a lollipop. I shave in different stuff each week but the hair on the sides can only grow fast, so I alternate between each sides of my head and just cover the side I don't use with my top hair."

Q: How is your real personality like?
"Just like all our members, I'm fun and energetic. The thing is though, that I have this period before I become friends with somebody I've just met, a period of inspection. Some misunderstand me and think that I don't like them, but when I finish the inspection and become friends with that person I'm quite energetic around them."

Q:Doesn't your busy schedule wear you down?
"Can't tell if we're really busy yet. We're just happy each day because this was what we always wanted to do. I wish that we were busier."

"I'm called that because I eat a lot of pretty much everything. Little Dong Woon and I are late night snack buddies, so we always eat cookies or make some instant noodles late at night. I thought it was odd that I didn't gain any weight so I took medical test on the 3rd and apparently I'm underweight. Must be the lack of sleep and sweating."

Q: You're the mascot of the cute apparently. How is your real personality like?
"Aww, thank you. I prefer this image of cuteness as well. Its not like I'm sexy or have nice abs so I think its more fitting for me to be the cute one."

Q: Do you sometimes go on fan sites of you guys?
"All the time. Those places are our playground. I fight with Doo Joon sometimes because of our fan sites."

Q: How did you get the nickname "Kwang Kwang"?
"Had it since I was a trainee at JYP, no real meaning attached though. Mostly because I have Kwang in my name I guess."

Q: Isn't it hard to sing for BEAST and act on Highkick through the roof at the same time? You're a high school student in love with Hwang Jung Eum in the show, but have you ever dated someone older than you in real life?
"I wanted to try acting as well and I have been taking lessons, and I'm glad that I was given the opportunity to be on Highkick. My body is tired but I wanted to do it so I'm kept happy. I'll try harder for all our viewers. Also, I've not had that many girlfriends but yeah, haven't dated someone older yet. Kind of curious about what it would be like though."

Q: Yoon Shi Yoon from the show says that you're full of charms. How is your real personality?
"Lots of charm, lots of fun, I think."

"Really? I thank anyone who thinks that way."

"Wanted to go to the university with Chinese scholarship, so I took lessons and studied by myself as well. There are some Chinese trainees in the company and I can speak fairly well with them."

"I'm losing chances to talk, I want to be funny but my face and my tone are quite serious so that image stuck on me. I am however looking an year or two ahead so I think I have a lot of time to show my funny side in future."

"That is very unfortunate. SME offers unacceptable conditions to their artists. It breaks our hearts to know that Yunho and Changmin are still there."


Q: You have partially won the trial. How do you feel about your victory?"
"We're more worried about how Yunho and Changmin would feel confused about the ruling. They must have thought that SME, a major entertainment company, would win."


Q: Yesterday, Yunho and Changmin showed their support for SME.
"They can't help but do such thing. They have to do something like that because they're with SME. We've done a lot of things we didn't want to do as well, because we were forced."


Q: How are you finding their decision?
"It'd be a lie if we didn't find it somewhat bitter. But we know that they have their own story, so we understand them."


Q: What do you plan on earning through this lawsuit?"
"All we want is to part from SME. The contracts were unfair, especially the length of 13 years. Division of profit was problematic as well. The three of us have yet to receive our share of income amounting up to couple hundred thousand dollars each."


Q: Some view the lawsuit as the end of DBSK?
"We do not want to cease working as or break apart from DBSK. We just want to end our relationship with SME."


Q: Are you in contact with Yunho or Changmin?
"We lost contact with them after we took legal actions. But we can assume why that would have happened."


Q: How do you plan on maintaining your relationship with those two members?
"If they have something that is holding them back from talking to us, then we will fight to change that. They will speak up when the time comes."


Q: So you are willing to stay together with two other members?

"We will not release an album or perform on stage until Yunho and Changmin comes back to us."

New 5-member boy band MBLAQ. They are not normal from their looks. With their dark, smoky make-up, black clothes, sexy concept involving the show of abs, they also have the charismatic, powerful dancing skills.

So the fans call MBLAQ ‘Chic Idols’. From ‘Beastly Idols’ and ‘Vegetarian’, this new nickname is also humorous.

Even though it’s been only 2 weeks since debut, the fans are already busy giving nicknames. The MBLAQ members also find this fun and interesting. And of course, they have a lot to say about it.

They are so chatty that the name ‘Chic Idol’ doesn’t suit them. Let’s look at them one by one as we get to know them better.

- Seungho (Yang Seungho): Team Leader, ‘Early Adapter’, ‘Yang Samjoo’

He became the leader due to being the oldest. And he shows his leader-like quality by covering up everything that the other members say.

How did you get the nicname ‘Yang Samjoo’ and ‘Way Ahead of time Seungho’ ?

“A few days ago on a radio show, I made the mistake of saying that it had been 3 weeks since we debuted, instead of 3 days. So the fans gave me a nickname of ‘Yang Samjoo’ (T/N Yang ‘Three weeks’. ‘Sam’ means three and ‘Joo’ means week.), and I really like it. (the members were happy because it was a good nickname). And please put this in the article: I was considering Rain hyung’s concert as well, so I thought it’d be three weeks (laughter)… But I think I was so nervous that i miscalculated the time.

What is Early Adapter for Seungho?

“Even though I don’t have many ‘modern’ things, I have a lot of interest in them. Out of clothes, shoes and machinery, machinery is my first priority. But that doesn’t mean that I have interest in fridges or microwave ovens (laughter). I have a lot of interest in computers and other portable objects. I prefer things that concentrate on one particular function, rather than multi-functional things.

- G.O. (Jung Byunghee): Main vocal, Nickname – Teol Glass (T/N Teol means hair)

Opposed to his perhaps scary (?) first impression, he has a good sense of humour. Along with the youngest Mir, he makes everyone laugh. He also acts as an agony uncle to Seungho as they are the same age.

The nickname ‘Teol Glass’ is unique. And why do you wear sunglasses all the time?

“The nickname came because of my beard and sunglasses. Because the other members are ‘flower boys’, I wanted to be different so I kept wearing sunglasses, but I keeping looking like Michael (T/N He is a character from the Korean children’s show “Dooly”). The fans keep telling me that I look cuter without the sunglasses. As I wear sunglasses and dance at the same time, my attention keeps going to that. I’m going to perform without them from now on.”

Any episodes regarding the beard?

“I debuted as a member of TYKEYS, but that didn’t work out well. So I went to audition at a company which seemed the most reliable. I was growing a beard at that time, but Rain told me to shave then come back, so I did it. He thought that I looked OK without the beard, but told me at a later date to grow it back again, so this has resulted in how I look right now. I don’t have any thoughts in shaving just yet.” (Kim Taewoo had recently told their manager that G.O. has a similar feel to him, so he felt happy).

- Lee Joon (Lee Changsun): Vocal, He plays the younger version of Rain in the movie ‘Ninja Assassin’

He has a good body. He introduced himself as ‘MBLAQ’s muscles’. He looks like Rain. The way that he moves on stage is like Rain, so his nickname is “Baby Fox”.

You must have been at an advantage at the audition because you looked like Rain.

“I followed a dongsaeng (T/N A younger person) to an audition, seeing as I was bored. Because the auditions were already at its 2nd, 3rd stage, I didn’t have faith that I’d get in. I was just in awe because I got to see Jihoon hyung, but people told me to audition. I got in at once. Jihoon was initially reluctant to choose me, but he liked the way that I smiled.”

“I get told that I look like Rain a lot, but Jihoon hyung is so much better looking. Even though we don’t appear similar, foreigners just assume that we look the same. It’s a real honour to be told that I look like my idol.” (The members say that they sometimes get confused between Rain and Lee Joon.)

Your debut movie is going to Hollywood. How do you feel towards the release of ‘Ninja Assassin”?

“I saw the film, and it came out as I expected it to be. In the case of Jihoon hyung, the film reflects on everything that he had to go through. Action movies destress me. It’s a good action movie.”

- Chundoong (Park Sanghyun): Rap, his older sister is 2NE1’s Sandara Park

He went to the Phillipines when he was 4 and came back to Korea 2 years ago. Despite spending a long time abroad, his wide vocabulary amazes the other members. He is kind and gentle. They call Chundoong ‘an angel without wings’.

You are an issue at the moment due to your sister being Sandara Park

“It’s good that my sister is a singer. It’s been ages since I saw the other family members, but I get to see her in the broadcasting company building. Because I’m with my sister, I’m more comfortable and light-hearted about everything. I hope that 2NE1 and MBLAQ succeed together.”

A sudden questions from the members. They ask who he would choose if 2NE1 and MBLAQ were both up for the #1 spot.

“When I dance on stage, that part always gets exposed. That’s why I have those nicknames. Whilst the hyungs get nice photos, I get captures with weird exp ressions or something with nipples in it. They say that I never fail to disappoint. I think it’s a unique and fun nickname.

Your sister is the actress Go Eunah.

“My sister isn’t a top star… (laughter). When I went to eat with the people from her entertainment company, a director told me to act. But I failed. Being a singer had more appeal for me than being an actor. My family members opposed my decision in the beginning but the CEO (he’s also my brother-in-law) told me that if I have the confidence not to bring shame to Jihoon hyung and my sister, then go for it. Because my sister is also a celebrity, I go to her for guidance when I’m low and she encourages me a lot too, which is good.”

In a recent interview with Newsen, Jang Hyun Seung, Yoon Doo Joon and Lee Ki Gwang of the rookie group BEAST delved into their past and shared new pieces of information about themselves that were unheard of before.



Many people who are already familiar with Jang Hyun Seung know that he trained under YG Entertainment to become a member of Big Bang, but was eliminated before he got the chance to debut with them. It's been quite some time since then, but Jang Hyun Seung was finally reunited with his fellow trainee and good friend, G-Dragon (real name: Kwon Ji Yong) on last week's broadcasting of SBS Inkigayo. While the Big Bang leader was present on the show for his solo activities, Jang Hyun Seung was preparing for his group's debut performance. They met up again after rehearsals and caught up on what they missed during their time apart.

"After not being able to debut with Big Bang, I hardly kept in contact with them, but I saw Ji Yong hyung for the first time in 2 - 3 years," the vocalist of BEAST admitted. "He seemed really happy that we would see each other more often from now on. Initially, it was slightly awkward since we haven't seen each other in so long, but he has always been good at taking care of me." Jang Hyun Seung will also encounter Taeyang of Big Bang, as the latter is expected to make his solo comeback on Inkigayo on the 25th.

Of BEAST's showcase on the 15th, he said, "I was so nervous the night before that I only slept for 30 minutes. Out of 10 points, I would give my performance a 3. I was really disappointed. However, I think the performance on 'Music Bank' on the 16th was better than the showcase. Being on a live music program feels a little strange, but I still think it was better."

He also described his inspirations for becoming a singer in the first place as he has obviously endured much to reach the point he is at now. "When I was young, I developed a dream of singing after watching Seotaiji and Boys and H.O.T. Since then, I have not thought of doing anything else besides becoming a singer."

Jang Hyun Seung has come a long way from the hopeful kid in his 2nd year of junior high.



Likewise, Yoon Doo Joon of BEAST revealed his own reason as to why he decided to pursue a career in the cut-throat entertainment industry.

"Actually, I used to play soccer during junior high. My dream was to become a high school P.E. teacher," he claimed. "I gained a lot of weight during junior high. But during my 1st - 2nd year of high school, I went on a diet and lost most of it."

When asked how his dream of becoming a P.E. teacher was radically changed to becoming a singer, Yoon Doo Joon replied, "I saw MTV's 'Big Bang Documentary.' I always enjoyed singing and dancing, but watching people of my age chase after their dreams was really admirable."

Ironically, the eliminated member of Big Bang, whom Yoon Doo Joon watched on the small screen and felt inspired by, ended up being a part of his own group. Isn't it funny how fate works sometimes?

Yoon Doo Joon continued, "My teachers and parents all said I couldn't [become a singer]. However, after incessant pleading and crying, I enrolled in a music school. I attended many auditions and worked extremely hard, in hopes of becoming a singer."

It is widely known that Yoon Doo Joon was featured in the reality program 'Hot Blood,' which consisted of members from 2PM and 2AM who were preparing for their debut at the time.

"During the training days of 'Hot Blood,' Im Seul Ong (2AM) and I would always eat midnight snacks together," he recalled of the experience. "At the time, it felt like such a long period, but now that I think about it, it was only a brief moment."

As a final closing message, Yoon Doo Joon said, "Since we [BEAST] just took our first step into the K-pop scene, we will start to run at full force. This is only the beginning of our performances so it will be good to anticipate a new side of us from now on."



Unlike the previous two members who briefly tested the water before joining BEAST, Lee Ki Gwang was already swimming laps. Having released two songs from his debut album "First Episode: A New Hero," Lee Ki Gwang was definitely no one new to the stage. The 19-year-old artist gained a relatively good amount of fans during his solo activities and was even deemed to be the next Rain / Bi. However, with his official membership in BEAST, AJ sacrificed his solo career to share his fame and success with 5 other members.

"To be honest, it's very fun," answered Lee Ki Gwang when asked about his reaction to joining a 6-member boy band. "I am less nervous on stage too, as opposed to when I was alone. During practices, I can direct my focus on a specific part that is appropriate for me. Even the practices are more fun with other members. When I traveled alone, it was always quiet, but now I am able to eat with the group and create a ruckus."

The member with the "chocolate abs" added, "Because of my individual schedule, there were many times I felt apologetic towards the others." Due to his acting role in MBC 'The Unstoppable High Kick' / 'High Kick Through the Roof,' Lee Ki Gwang wasn't able to practice with the group sometimes. "To the members who were understanding [of my situation], I am sorry and thankful."

The boys all seem to have experienced their own share of hardships and suffering, but, as the old adage goes, "all's well that ends well." Some may view BEAST as a team of rejects, but such an ignorant comment implies that people are drinking too much haterade have not yet witnessed the talent each member possesses. With successful album sales and a rapidly growing fanbase, BEAST seems to be one of the emerging groups in 2009 with a promising future ahead of them.
